Oliehoorn attaches great importance to a healthy environment. Measures are therefore continually taken to ensure that our production process is as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible.
Water purification system
The water purification system is installed in the environmental room. The waste water from production is collected and pumped towards a buffer. Via the buffer, the water is pumped towards the so-called fluctuator where the waste water is treated. The concentrated waste is them transported to a sludge collection container and subsequently to a sludge treatment facility. The water is discharged to the sewer.
Cardboard and plastic are collected every day from warehouses and production. Plastic is compressed into bales. Residuals from oil and sauce containers are removed in so-called Nyssen containers. Cartridges, toners and batteries are collected separately. The use of more environmentally-friendly packaging and large units reduces the waste flow.
To prevent unnecessary use of lighting, the lights in the working areas have motion detectors. Oliehoorn uses free air cooling. This system uses outside air to cool equipment. This way energy is saved. The aluminium frames of UnieKozijn ensure optimum heat insulation, combined with an excellent density of the entire frame design. Machine settings can be remotely controlled. This minimises unnecessary driving by maintenance mechanics. Solar panels on the roofs and the Sunflower, which moves with the sun path, result in 40 percent less energy consumption
Oliehoorn’s climate control system collects the heat released in the boiler house. This heat is used to heat the storeroom and distribution warehouse. It enables Oliehoorn to save several thousands of cubic of natural gas on an annual basis. The air-conditioning unit is also equipped with a high-efficiency cooling system, enabling energy-efficient cooling of the production area.
Oliehoorn is ISO 9001:2008 certified and works according to an integrated HACCP plan, also called food safety plan. The foolproof track and trace system allows all incoming and processed materials up to the finished product and dispatch of the products to be monitored. In the event of a calamity, the quality system provides for an effective recall procedure.
We choose to use as many natural resources as possible. Examples include our Green Label frying oil (100% natural) and our Green Label Mayonnaise, which does not contain any artificial aromatic substances or colouring or flavourings. This mayonnaise is also gluten free and the egg yolks are obtained from eggs from chicken farms with high animal welfare standards. Oliehoorn has installed a mini production line at Van Hall Larenstein. At this facility, tests are carried out and research conducted into the possibilities of salt reduction, the use of less sugar and the use of natural raw materials in the preparation process. Whenever possible, we use homegrown ingredients.
