The B Corp certification is awarded worldwide by B Lab, the nonprofit organization behind the certification. They reward companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. The certification process is intensive: applicants must achieve a benchmark score of at least 80 (out of 200) points and provide evidence of social and environmental policies related to energy use, waste and water management, employee compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. Oliehoorn achieved a score of 85 points.
Every three years, B Corps must be re-certified to maintain their status. Companies such as FishTales, Tony's Chocolonely, Auping, Hak and Triodos preceded Oliehoorn .
Sustainability coordinator Jurre Zwinkels emphasizes that future-proof business fits perfectly with the company's vision: "In 2021, we took important steps to turn our existing business operations into a future-proof business model. This means that together with our sustainability team we have set and realized clear development goals. Together, we are choosing to grow only in a responsible manner."
Sustainable entrepreneurship is perpetuated in Oliehoorn 's articles of association in that "one of the company's goals is to have a significant positive impact on society and the environment in general through its business operations and activities." Oliehoorn is reinforcing its sustainable ambition by further expanding its existing location in Hoorn to open the Netherlands' first gasless sauce factory in mid-2026.
